Grape variety
The LUYT Reserva 2017 red wine is made primarily from the Touriga Nacional grape. This is a native grape that grows mainly in Portugal’s Douro region and gives this wine its unique character.
Vineyard/Terroir
The LUYT Reserva 2017 comes from grapes from a field specially selected by Maarten van Luyt at an average altitude of 350m on the south side of the Douro Valley in the UNESCO World Heritage area. The 30-year-old vineyard gives a yield of 3500 kilos/ha. Due to the indirect sun on the northern slopes, the grapes here develop slowly but vigorously, on the slate soil of Douro Superior.
Production
Reserva
The LUYT Reserva 2017 may be called a Reserva because it meets the high-quality requirements of the IVDP (Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto).
Year
The year 2017 has been an excellent year for Douro wines. Winespectator rating 95. The very hot and dry growing season led to an early harvest and the vineyards with old vines produced powerful and generous wines.
Shelf life
The LUYT Reserva 2017 can be drunk immediately but can also be laid down for a longer period. From the moment of bottling it is a very good wine, but its best time will probably be in the period 2022-2027.
